In the past few months I’ve finally found a morning routine that works really well for me, and gets my mind in the right place for a great day ahead. I’m sharing it today and hope you find some ideas for your own morning routine!
I work from home as a business owner for my brand, Ashley Shelly, and freelance photo retoucher/graphic designer. So, I have quite a bit of flexibility in my schedule but I’m always working Monday-Friday. I do this same routine on weekend mornings as well because I enjoy it so much now! I’m also a dog-Mom to a Shih Tzu puppy named Evie, and she’s a big part of my morning routine. So let’s get into it.
When I wake up, I like to do so slowly. I’m not a jump out of bed in the morning type of person. I drink some water from the tumbler on my nightstand first thing. I love water. I like to check my phone for any messages, emails, or social messages that may need to be addressed right away or later in the day, and then my brain is usually awake. I check on miss Evie in her crate next to our bed, and ask her “are you ready to get up, Boo-berry?!”. That’s one of her 1000 nicknames! After some puppy hugs, we head out of the bedroom so she can go potty and I get her breakfast ready. She has her Wellness Core Grain Free dry food and I mix in some plain chicken breast, which she LOVES.
Once Evie is all set, I head to the kitchen to get my own breakfast. Right now I am into the Eggo Nutri-Grain Blueberry waffles, Smart Balance butter, and a little bit of syrup, with a small glass of orange juice to drink. I also take my vitamins and drink lots of water with my breakfast. I pretty much have water with me at all times and enjoy it so much.
After breakfast, it’s time to do Evie’s daily grooming. Since she is a Shih Tzu and we keep her in a long coat, she has to be brushed and taken care of daily. I have grown to love this time with her and it’s our special time together every day. She gets her eyes and face wiped down and cleaned, conditioner sprayed on her coat, brushed thoroughly, and her top knot put in with a bow!
Next, I head back into the master bedroom to make the bed. I love doing this now! I wasn’t always a bed maker in the mornings, but man, it has seriously changed my mindset now that I’ve been doing it for months. It takes away the visual clutter of the room and clears my mind for the day. Then I pick out a work from home outfit. This typically consists of my favorite yoga pants and a racerback tank top, with a light sweatshirt over it if it’s cooler. I love being cozy but also put together. This is huge too if you work from home! I wash my face, moisturize with the Aveeno Nourishing line, and put on a little bit of Cover Girl mascara. I brush my hair and put it into a high ponytail or bun. I just can’t work with my hair down! Then, I put on stud earrings and a simple necklace. That’s it. And it’s perfect for me.
Now that I’m ready for the day, I feel prepared, refreshed, and excited to start my tasks in my Ashley Shelly Planner. I get it out and grab my laptop and take on the world (while Evie brings me every toy she owns and tries to convince me to play)! 🙂
